Jakart (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI closed 9.59 points or 0.19 percent lower at 4,932.56 points on Wednesday.

The index of 45 most liquid stocks also fell 0.38 percent to 832.09 points.

The decline of the index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange was caused by rupiah weakening and the deficit in the countrys trade balance in April, Panin Sekuritas analyst Purwoko Sartono said .

Political heat up ahead of the presidential eleciton also contributed to weakening the market, he said.

The market recorded 200,276 transactions with 2.73 billion shares worth Rp3.78 trillion changing hand.

Gainers were outnumbered by decliners by 135 to 157 shares with 104 shares flat.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng and Strait Times recorded a decline in index with Nikkei index rising.(*)
