Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI) closed slightly higher on Friday on regional sentiment.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 1.61 points or 0.03 percent to 4,937.18 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.12 percent to 833.65 points.

"The majority of markets in Asia including BEI recorded gain," Panin Sekuritas analyst Purwoko Sartono said .

Purwoko said the BEI index would tend to rise next week to follow the regional trend.

The BEI recorded 159,254 transactions in Fridays trade with 2.62 billion shares worth Rp3.73 billion changing hands.

Gainers were still outnumbered by decliners by 122 to 174 with 101 shares flat.

Regional markets such as Hang Seng posted a 0.69 percent fall in index to 22,951, with Nikkei index up 2.17 percent to 14,346.20 and that of Straits Times gaining 0.60 percent to 3,299.43 points. (*)
