The House Commission agrees to cut the budget for Bappenas to Rp1.14 trillion from Rp1.17 trillion previously.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The House of Representatives (DPR RI) agreed to slash the budget of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) by Rp46.47 billion as part of efforts to cut budgets at 86 ministries and government institutions in 2014.

"The House Commission agrees to cut the budget for Bappenas to Rp1.14 trillion from Rp1.17 trillion previously," Chief of the House Commission XI Olly Dondokambey said in a meeting with the government here on Friday.

The budget cut came from the agencys main and supporting programs, including Rp6.53 billion in the national development planning program and Rp37.44 billion in the management support program.

The other programs that experienced budget cuts are the facility and infrastructure improvement program of Rp2 billion and the supervision and accountability program of Rp500 million.

Minister of National Development Planning/Chief of Bappenas Armida Alisjahbana said the budget cut was done by reducing the number of official visits and restricting the number of participants in activities.

The other strategy of cutting budget was putting planned purchase of official cars on hold, she said.

One of the ways to maintain fiscal continuity this year is slashing budgets at 86 ministries and government institutions by up to Rp43 trillion, from Rp100 trillion previously, to maintain the budget deficit at less than 2.4 percent of the gross domestic product.

The budget cut is relatively high as in the previous years it did not reach Rp20 trillion.
