Through experience and credibility, they can build public trust."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Political analyst from the University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (Untirta) Banten, Leo Agustino, argued that quick count results conducted by pollsters who are not credible tend to destroy public.
"Quick count results conducted by pollsters have been conflicting," Leo stated here on Thursday.
He believed that the pollsters had been sharply fragmented into two camps. The quick count results of the presidential elections by certain agencies have revealed that the Prabowo-Hatta pair had won, while others have shown that the Jokowi-JK duo had won.
"The problem is that both the camps claim to have won the elections. If this situation is not managed elegantly, it could lead to destruction," he affirmed.
He stated that only the most accurate and credible pollsters can be used as guidelines to the public.
"Through experience and credibility, they can build public trust," he asserted.
The experience of pollsters can be judged from their ability to conduct quick counts in various elections. Through experience as well, quick count results can be as accurate as actual vote count result.
Credibility can be achieved by the independence and neutrality of the pollsters, even if they are "hired" by candidates in Pilkada (direct election for governors, mayors, and regents).
Secondly, according to Leo, the withdrawal of sampling should be probability sampling. In other words, the difference in last quick count results might be due to negligence in determining the probability sample.
"It will be an obstacle if the pollsters showed that the Prabowo-Hatta duo had won the contest taking into account purposive sample on the basis of massa," he said.
Thirdly, according to Leo, is the distribution of the sample, which should represent Indonesian voters. The polls cannot cite the samples in Java and Sumatra alone, as Indonesian voters do not belong to only the two islands.
"Therefore, I have more confidence in quick count results conducted by Litbang Kompas, Indikator Politik Indonesia, Pol-Tracking, Charta Politika, Populi, and LSI and not in Puskaptis and IRC," he added.
The presidential election is contested by the Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa pair and the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla duo.
According to the KPU, a total of 190,307,134 voters had been registered for the election, which included 2,038,711 overseas voters, with 486,866 polling stations set up across the archipelago.
