"We have decided to detain the two suspects," spokesman of the Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Rikwanto stated in short text message received here on Tuesday.
The police had grilled the two suspects and obtained adequate evidence to detain them, he reported.
NB, a Canadian national, and FT, an Indonesian citizen, were named suspects on July 10, 2014.
"There was a statement of a witness saying that a pupil had seen the victim being assaulted. We also have the post mortem result and more than two other evidences," Rikwanto added.
The police continued the investigation and there might be another suspect, he stated.
In June, JIS Principal Timothy Carr and the schools kindergarten teacher, Murphy, underwent police questioning in connection with the sexual assault case.
They were accompanied by Counselor of the US Embassy in Jakarta for Consular Affairs Thurmond H. Borden.
Borden notified journalists that he had the right to accompany and witness the Jakarta metropolitan police investigators question a US citizen to ensure that he or she received fair treatment, and the process was carried out lawfully.
The Jakarta Police had earlier named other suspects identified as Agun, Awan, Zainal, Syahrial, and a woman with the initials AS. Another suspect named Azwar had committed suicide in police custody.
The suspects were cleaning service workers who were not permanent employees of the school. They allegedly abused AK, a six-year-old boy, in a toilet of the school, he pointed out.
In addition to the AK case, the Jakarta police had also received another report of a sexual assault involving a kindergarten student identified as DA at the school.
