"We have to finish our task to recap the results of the presidential election at the national and overseas level. We regret the withdrawal of the witnesses while the recapitulation process is going to be completed very soon. But, it is the right of every party, including the presidential candidate with sequent number 1, to leave the meeting," stated Hadar Nafis Gumay of the KPU.
Gumay noted that the KPU was obliged to invite witnesses in the plenary session, but it cannot stop them if they decided to walk out.
Prabowo Subianto earlier announced that he rejected the presidential election results, which were allegedly marred by massive frauds and cheating.
He accused the KPU of failing to be fair in implementing the election.
Indonesia organized the third democratic and direct presidential election on July 9, which was contested by two presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs: Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla.
The race for presidency has been a tight contest and has polarized the public and media.(*)
