Lebak (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Association of Backward Regencies (Askati) reminded president elect Joko Widodo of his pledge to bring modernity to back ward regencies all over the country.

Askati chairman Mulyadi Jayabaya said currently there are 183 regencies including Lebak regency categorized as backward districts that need the attention of the new government .

"We hope that the administration of Jokowi-JK would pay serious attention to improving the welfare of the 183 regencies," Jayabaya said in Rangkasbitung, regency of Lebak, on Wednesday.

He expressed appreciation for what has been done by the outgoing administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in developing backward districts.

Most of the 183 regencies are in eastern part of the country, he said.

"We will continue to fight for proposal that each backward regency would get Rp100 billion a year top allow them to catch up with other districts," he said.

He said he hopes that Jokowi and JK would not forget their pledge in pre election campaign to give greater attention to educational and health programs.

Backward districts need priority in development of education, road infrastructure , electricity and clean water supply, public health and economic resources.

Jayabaya then called on the entire people of the country to give their support for Jokowi as the countrys 7th president.

The election commission (KPU) has decided that Jokowi won the presidential election but his rival Prabowo Subianto rejected the decision accusing KPU of being unfair.

The final decision, therefore, has to be made by the Constitutional Court , expected later in August.
