"If other groups (the radicals) make America an enemy, ISIS makes Muslims their enemies," MUI General Chairman, Din SyamsuddinDin, said.
Jakarta (ANTARA Neews) - The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) movement is more dangerous than the radicals in this country, Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) general chairman, Din Syamsuddin, has stated.

"If other groups (the radicals) make America an enemy, ISIS makes Muslims their enemies," Din said here, Wednesday, adding that ISIS can destabilize the nation and state.

"The existence of the nation which is the result of the Muslims struggle can be threatened," Din further said.

ISIS becomes very dangerous because it is laden with violence, destruction, demonstration, and use of weapons, according to him.

"I observed that the culprits are the old groups," he noted, hoping that the government will play an active role in anticipating and stopping such movements.

"We dont have data about anyone indicted (in the movement)," Din said, explaining that the ISIS organization is not based on Islamic teachings.

In spreading its teachings, ISIS justifies violence, such as suicide bombings, looting banks, mass murder, as well as damaging sanctuaries, the MUI chairman cited.

MUI and representatives of 38 Muslim organizations in the country have prohibited the ISIS, but decided there was no need to set a "fatwa haram" (illicit edict), he pointed out.

In the meantime, a joint team of TNI (military) and police personnel has arrested seven people suspected to be supporters of the ISIS movement, including their chief, Chep Hermawan.

Chep Hermawan was arrested after he declared himself the ISIS chief for the Indonesian region several days ago along with six others at a gas filling station in Cilopadang, Cilacap, Central Java, according to information received by Antara, Tuesday.

A silver color Toyota Land Cruiser bearing the registration number D-6-CC with seven people on board halted to fill gas at the station. Thereafter, the car stopped again before a furniture shop outside the gas station, according to an eyewitness Wahyono.

Several TNI and police members were seen approaching them. They began to search the car and discovered ISIS flags, he claimed.

All of them were then taken to the police resort station in Cilacap, he stated.(*)
