The country failed to gain another medal after Hendro Salim, who competed in the 84-kilogram Karate Kumite games, lost the bronze medal. This left Indonesia with four gold, five silver and 11 bronze medals, chairman of Indonesian contingent to the Asian Games Ade Lukman said.
Moreover, Malaysia---which is competing with Indonesia---secured the 14th position with five gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze medals
"This is the maximum we can win. The target of nine gold medals cannot be achieved. We at least equaled our results from the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, where we won four gold medals too," Lukman added.
Two victories in badminton---both mens and womens doubles---as well as one in womens long jump brought Indonesia three gold medals. The fourth medal was awarded to Indonesia in wushu after a Malaysian athlete failed the doping test.
A badminton mixed doubles win, along with one each in kata karate individual men, mens singles soft tennis and wushu, and two in weightlifting, secured five silver medals for Indonesia.
Indonesia won bronze medals in two badminton games, two rowing competitions, and two sepak takraw (kick volleyball) games, along with one medal each in bowling, equestrian, soft tennis, weightlifting and wushu.
Furthermore, the general assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) declared Indonesia as the host of the Asian Games 2018.
"It has been officially agreed upon that Indonesia will host the Asian Games 2018," Chairwoman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee Rita Subowo told the press, following the OCA general assembly meeting in Incheon in South Korea recently.
During the assembly, Subowo explained that Indonesia was supported by 42 of the 45 countries participating in the games.
