Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak expressed hope that bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia will further improve under the new Indonesian government.

"I congratulate Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla on their inauguration as Indonesias new president and vice-president. I hope this will mark the beginning of good relations between both countries and that the relations will continue to develop in the future," Prime Minister Najib said after attending the presidential inauguration here on Monday.

He noted that the inauguration highlighted the good qualities of Indonesias democracy.

"The inauguration ceremony went well and in an orderly manner. This reflects very good democracy and Indonesias positive image," he added.

Najib hoped that cooperation between the two countries, particularly in economic and political fields, will develop well under the new government.

Six heads of state and 13 special envoys were present at the inauguration of Jokowi as Indonesias seventh president here on Monday.

The six leaders were Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, Timor Leste President Taur Mata Huak, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Papua New Guinean (PNG) Prime Minister Peter ONeill, Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

The other foreign ministers and dignitaries who attended the ceremony included Japans former prime minister Yasuo Fukuda, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Filipino Foreign Minister Albert del Rosario, New Zealands Foreign Minister Murray McCully, Thai Deputy Prime Minister, Sri Lankas industry and oil minister, Russian industry and trade minister Denis Menturov, and Turkeys trade minister. Special envoys from South Korea, Canada, and China were also present.

President Jokowi and Vice-President M. Jusuf Kalla took oaths during the plenary session of the Peoples Consultative Assembly led by Speaker Zulkifli Hasan.

Jokowi is the second president, after Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who led the country during the last decade, to be directly elected by the people.
