Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Newly appointed Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan was asked to generate the strong public policy in line with his current capacity after engaging in corporation affairs.

"Jonan who is expert in the railway company PT KAI (Kereta Api Indonesia), only has expertise in corporate ranks, but a strong public policy is needed in this Work Cabinet," chairman of the Indonesian Transportation Community Danang Parikesit said here on Sunday evening.

According to Danang, in effort to generate strong public policy, Jonan should be able to coordinate and communicate with the related ministers such as Chief of National Development Planning Agency Andrinof Chaniago and Minister of State Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno.

Danang further said that the public policy should take side with

the public transport that has been designed in the working group of the Work Cabinet of Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kallas government.

The public transport especially in urban areas should meet 45 to 60 percent demand of mass transport in large amounts, he said.

Danang also said, as the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kallas government stick to the maritime axis program, Jonan should also generate strong public policy on the sea transportation.

Jonan replaced Major General (ret.) Evert Ernest Mangindaan (of former President Yudhoyonos cabinet).

In addition, Jonan has been named the best Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indonesia 2014 by SWA business magazine for successfully bringing the state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) back on track, from a losing firm to a profitable enterprise.

Some of his breakthrough was the improvement of train service by the implementation of the electronic ticketing and sterilization of stations from merchants and beggars, turning the face of trains stations clean and neat.

Jonan was awarded The Best CEO BUMN (State-Owned Enterprises) in 2013 by the SOE Minister Dahlan Iskan.
