Manado (ANTARA News) - North Sulawesi exported crude coconut oil (CCO) to Malaysia and the United States last month, the regional Industry and Trade office said.

Head of the trade and industry office Jenny Karouw said exports in mid October to the two countries totaled 13,563 tons valued at US$15.05 million.

Exports to the United States totaled 7,496 tons valued at US$8.27 million and to Malaysia totaled 6,040 tons valued at US$6.78 million.

CCO was processed from farmers copra, Jenny said.

The province has also exported CCO to other countries such as the Netherlands, China and a number of other European countries, she said.

"North Sulawesi dominates CCO market in the world . North Sulawesis CCO is high in demand in international market as it is known to be superior in quality," she said.

CCO is only one of coconut products exported from North Sulawesi, she added without naming other products.

She said the regional administration would facilitate expansion of coconut plantations by farmers and exports of coconut products from the province.

Coconut oil products , however, could not face palm oil products such as cooking oil in competition in the country.

Indonesia is the largest palm oil producer and exporters in the world.
