"Optimal modes of transportation are necessary for traditional Indonesian fishermen to transport fish and other marine products they catch," the minister stated after opening a national conference on coastal areas and small islands resource management at here on Wednesday night.
She noted that inadequate modes of transportation and capital had become a major problem for the fishermen to sell their products in fresh condition in other regions.
"All customers in other regions want to buy fish, lobsters, and other marine commodities in fresh condition, but the sales are hampered by inadequate infrastructure and transport," Susi affirmed.
In the meantime, East Java Governor Soekarwo was optimistic that the presence of numerous ports in the province could ease logistic problems and help in the shipment of marine products to other regions.
"It is impossible that logistics costs can become cheaper if it is not supported by smooth connectivity," the governor noted.
