Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo named retired general Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan as head of presidential staff here on Wednesday.

Following his inauguration, Luhut said he will help President Joko Widodo implement his main programs and other tasks, including coordinating with various circles and parties.

"(We are ready) to synchronize a variety of works and coordinate a lot of matters with several parties," he told newsmen.

However, he declined to elaborate on specific areas in which he will coordinate with other parties.

"I do not know the details yet. I was just installed at 1200 hours. What is clear is that I will help the President realize his programs," he noted.

Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto pointed out that one of the tasks of head of presidential staff is to provide strategic information to the President about the implementation of various government programs.

Andi added that staff members will be decided later.

Luhut Pandjaitan is a former Indonesian ambassador to Singapore and the trade and industry minister in 2000-01.

Vice-President Jusuf Kalla and a number of cabinet ministers and heads of state institutions also attended the inauguration.(*)
