The 10th WWF will be the final major event hosted under President Joko Widodo's administration.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The 10th World Water Forum (WWF), scheduled for May 18–24 this year in Bali, will run smoothly and serve as the final major international event hosted by Indonesia under President Joko Widodo's administration.

Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan made the remarks during a coordination meeting on the holding of the 10th WWF in Bali on Friday.

"Indonesia has successfully hosted various international events. The 10th WWF will be the final major event hosted under President Joko Widodo's administration. We need to properly prepare this event to ensure maximum results," he said, according to a written statement received here the same day.

As the chair of the 10th WWF National Committee, Pandjaitan affirmed that the government should make the most of the event to demonstrate that Indonesia has been taking concrete actions to ensure the sound management of the country's abundant water resources.

For instance, he said, the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has built 36 of the targeted 61 dams, while the Environment and Forestry Ministry has been successful in rehabilitating 179 million hectares of forest lands to conserve water.

"The government has also been making tremendous efforts to ensure sufficient water supply to support national food resilience. These measures are proof of Indonesia's seriousness," he added.

He then expressed the hope that the 10th WWF would also result in legacies and concrete deliverables for Indonesia and the world.

"I would like to reiterate the need to ensure that the 10th WWF will be a successful event that results in beneficial legacies and concrete deliverables for Indonesia and the global community," he said.

He then underlined the importance of holding a memorable opening ceremony and gala dinner for the participating heads of state and delegates.

The 2024 WWF will feature several important activities, including the High-Level Meeting of the Indonesia-Brazil-Democratic Republic of Congo Tropical Forest Protection Alliance and the launch of the G20 Bali Global Blended Finance Alliance, along with its secretariat.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pahala Mansury; head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati; and acting Bali governor S.M. Mahendra Jaya also attended the coordination meeting.
