* PT PLN appoints CG for manufacture, supply and installation of power transformers
* To be installed in 36 different substations all across Indonesia
* Project funded by World Bank in collaboration with Indonesian Government

MUMBAI, India--(Antara/BUSINESS WIRE)-- Avantha Group Company CG has sealed a prestigious deal with PT PLN (Perusahaan Listrik Negara) Indonesia, for the manufacture and supply of 37 units of 60MVA, 30MVA and 150/20kV Power Transformers. Valued at USD 26 million, CG’s power transformers will be installed across PT PLN’s transmission network, in 36 different substations in Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan and the Sulawesi islands of Indonesia. This project is being funded by IBRD - World Bank, in collaboration with the Government of Indonesia, for the purpose of strengthening Indonesia’s power networks.

The order was won under a competitive international public bidding process and represents the first of its kind won by CG Indonesia. The project scope includes the design, manufacturing, factory testing, site installation and testing, and the pre-commissioning of the transformers over a period of 18 months. CG was selected for this project due to its successful track record in Indonesia, backed by a global recognition of its technical expertise in manufacturing and supplying high-voltage transformers at the best quality to price ratio.

PT PLN is the sole government-owned corporation in electricity generation, transmission and distribution in Indonesia and is one of the largest state-owned enterprises. It has an installation base of 48 GW and ambitious plans to ramp up the electrification of Indonesia from the current 67 percent to 100 percent in the next decade. From 2013 to 2022, PT PLN has a long-term plan for an additional generating capacity of 59.5 GW, with a total estimated expenditure of around USD 125 billion. From 1993 onwards, CG has been regularly providing PT PLN’s generation and transmission divisions, power transformers in the range of 30MVA to 500MVA, with voltage levels up to 500 kV. CG has also entered into a joint venture with PT PLN in the past, to manufacture high-voltage switchgear products of up to the 500 kV class, locally in Indonesia. This makes CG a preferred local partner for power plant transformers in this region.

CG products meet the stringent quality parameters of PT PLN, particularly in terms of Partial Discharge wherein, its standards far exceed the IEC standards and the Degree of Polymerization, thus ensuring long lasting, trouble-free operations. This has resulted in a large amount of savings for PT PLN. Through the deployment of CG’s power transformers, PT PLN will be able to lessen its dependence on the import of heavy equipment, while simultaneously executing a timely implementation of its transmission network strengthening programme. CG’s power transformers maximise space utility with their compact design and achieve optimum energy efficiency through low levels of losses. The reduced degree of noise and partial discharge also make the transformers a preferred choice for strengthening transmission networks. Furthermore, CG has also invested more than USD 15 million to build a 550 kV Extra High Voltage Test Lab in Indonesia. Due to its consistent performance, CG commands a 30% market share in the utility segment.

Commenting on receiving this prestigious order, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO and Managing Director Laurent Demortier said: “We are honoured to have received this order and we would like to thank PT PLN for this opportunity. This new order is in line with our strategic intent of establishing CG as a key provider of high-voltage transformers in the South East Asian market. We look forward to being a part of many more collaborative efforts that involve building robust power transmission networks, in Indonesia and the rest of Asia.”
