Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The East Java Community Alliance (Jatim AM) has reported Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Zulkarnaen to the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Bareskrim) of the National Police for allegedly receiving gratification.

"We ask Bareskrim to investigate the alleged case of gratification involving Zulkarnaen when he was chief of the East Java public prosecutors office," Jatim AM member Zainal Abidin said at the National Police Headquarters here on Wednesday.

Zainal alleged that Zulkarnaen received a Toyota All New Camry 3000 cc and a sum of money from then East Java governor Imam Utomo.

"What was the business of the East Java governor to come to the chief of the East Java public prosecutors office at that time?" he asked.

He handed over pieces of evidence to Bareskrim, including a report of alleged corruption case related to the Peoples Socio-Economic Empowerment Program (P2SEM) in 2008.

The alleged case of gratification started when the East Java prosecutors office investigated the alleged embezzlement of grants allotted to the program.

Zainal alleged that Zulkarnaen had received a bribe of Rp2.8 billion from the then East Java governor to stop the investigation of the case.

As many as 186 people, most of them members of the East Java provincial legislative council (DPRD), were named suspects in the case.

Zainal who was a member of the provincial legislative council from 1999 top 2009 asked why Zulkarnaen did not investigate the then East Java governor.

Earlier, timber company PT Desy Timber also reported KPK Deputy Chairman Adnan Pandu Praja to the police for the alleged takeover of the companys shares.

Mukhlis Ramlan, the timber companys lawyer, alleged that Adnan took over his clients shares by force in 2006 when he acted as a lawyer of the company holding a concession of a 36,000-hectare forest in Berau, East Kalimantan, in 1970.(*)
