The accident occurred at 09.28 A.M. when the workers were close to completing the hangar for parking AFR planes or small planes.Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Five people were killed and 14 injured when an aircraft calibration hangar under construction at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi province, collapsed on Monday.
"Five workers have been killed. Two of them died on the spot while three died in a hospital," spokesman for the airport Tamar Jaya said.
Tamar noted that the accident occurred at 09.28 A.M. when the workers were close to completing the hangar for parking AFR planes or small planes.
The hangar was 60-70 percent complete. The workers were installing a steel frame on its roof when it collapsed, he noted.
"The project that started in 2014 was scheduled to be completed this year. The accident has brought the projects chief under evaluation," he added.
The project was implemented by PT Lience Romauli Raya and PT Nur Jaya Nusantara with Tunggung Napitupulu as a joint operation holder and Tiku Kombong as a field project manager.
While undergoing treatment at the Air Force hospital, Yakob Jumahir recalled the accident he has survived.
"At the beginning I felt a vibration. Two minutes later, the central part of the construction collapsed, with 10 people working on the roof and 50-60 others below it," he revealed.(*)
