First Secretary of the French embassy Jean Louis Bertrand said the legal process being faced by Serge was substantially different from the process of PK (review of case) on other convicts in the same case.Tangerang (ANTARA News) - An official of the French embassy said on Wednesday the legal process being faced by drug convict on death row Serge Atlaoui, a Frenchman, is not fair.
First Secretary of the French embassy Jean Louis Bertrand said here the legal process being faced by Serge was substantially different from the process of PK (review of case) on other convicts in the same case.
Bertrand said he was surprised to see that the legal process on Serge who is soon to be executed while the process of PK on other convicts in the same case are still being studied.
He said he was more surprised to find out from the dossiers prepared by Serges lawyer that Serge played only a minor role as a welder in the group of drug convicts.
Therefore, he said he strongly hopes that all facts given by Serges lawyer in the PK process could be considered seriously.
"Our hope is that the legal process could be carried out fairly although so far it was not as expected," Bertrand said.
He said the French Government fully believed in Indonesian judiciary and asked Indonesian mass media to be objective in their presentation of news.
Serge Atlaoui was arrested together with more than ten other people already convicted in 2005 on charge of operating ecstasy factory in Cikande, Tangerang, Banten.
In 2007, the Supreme Court found Serge guilty and gave him a death penalty. Serge Atlaouis appeal for clemency was rejected by the president in 2014.
On February 10, 2015 Serge filed a PK, which was accepted by the Tangerang district court. The first PK session took place on Wednesday.
Based on the Law No 2/PNPS/1964, execution of death row convicts in the same case would be carried out at the same time.
Meanwhile Serges lawyer Nancy Yuliana said she would lodge a protest with the National Human Right Commission and President Joko Widodo that Serge has been unfairly punished.
"We will lodge a protest as Serge was not involved in the drug case. He was charged only as a welder in the process of producing the drug," she said here on Wednesday.
She said she would seek support for the defense of Serge from anywhere as she believed her client was not involved in the drug case.
Nancy said she was not very optimistic with the PK attempt after the judges of the court had rejected to hear witness testimonies.(*)
