After looking at the decision from an economic context of communities, we felt it must be reconsidered."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has revoked a recent controversial regulation he had issued hiking down payment for the purchase of private cars by state officials.
"The President has ordered its revocation," Minister/State Secretary Pratikno said here on Monday after a consultation meeting between the President and leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR).
He noted that certain developments in the past three months have made the initial formulation no longer matching with the current situation.
"This is not a procedural mistake. After looking at the decision from an economic context of communities, we felt it must be reconsidered," he explained.
According to him, the Presidential Regulation on the facility had been in preparation since January 5, 2015, following a request from the DPR.
"The letter was then processed and discussed at the government level involving, among other officials, the finance minister and was included in the 2015 budget," he pointed out.
Pratikno stated that the regulation was issued in accordance with procedures and existing mechanism and a budget was also allocated for it.
"But, in the past three months, there had indeed been a dynamic that made the initial formation no longer match the current development," he stressed.
He added that the decision will be revoked through a new presidential regulation.
The government had earlier issued Presidential Regulation Number 39 of 2015 signed by the president on March 20, 2015, to amend Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2010 regarding down payment facility for state officials to buy private cars.
Based on the regulation, the down payment was increased from Rp116.5 million to Rp210.89 million.
