The creation of the joint secretariat would allow the continents to hold a summit regularly, at least once every three years, Teuku Rezasyah of Padjadjaran University said here on Monday.
The joint secretariat could be part of efforts to increase cooperation in various fields among countries of the two continents, he stated.
"To avoid giving an impression that the commemoration of the anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC) is merely a ceremony, participants of the event must collectively be opposed to any efforts made by countries within and outside the region to become a military and police government," he noted.
AAC participants should also support Palestines fight to become an independent, sovereign and united country capable of coexisting peacefully with its neighboring states, he emphasized.
"Asian and African countries should together stand firm against the growth of anti-imperialist ideology, which has the potential to provoke a clash between the Asian-African region and the rest of the world, which would make it difficult for the region to establish synergy in development," Rezasyah explained.
Participants of the AAC should also be opposed to efforts made by countries outside and within the region to fight and punish a state and regime considered wrong by abiding by the UN resolution, he remarked.(*)
