"South-South Cooperation can and should help countries whose economic potentials are being exploited by terrorists," King Abdullah II said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - King of Jordan Abdullah II is urging countries involved in the South-South Cooperation to provide economic assistance, especially to nations that are under terrorist attacks.
"South-South Cooperation can and should help countries whose economic potentials are being exploited by terrorists," King Abdullah II said at the Asian-African Summit here on Wednesday.
He added that countries with weak economies were susceptible to be influenced by radical ideologies and certain groups.
Therefore, South-South Cooperation countries should be actively involved in dealing with any possibilities regarding the condition.
To manage these issues, countries concerned should create new opportunities for the younger generation and build proper sources of livelihood for communities for their welfare and so they can live in peace.
"Through the conference and other meetings, we can establish cooperation to ensure economic growth, improve developments, and open up opportunities for all communities," King Abdullah II emphasized.
He further noted that the ten major refugee-hosting countries from around the world were in Asia and Africa, with Jordan being the third-largest recipient.
Jordan receives some 1.4 million refugees who escape from the conflicts in Syria.
On the fourth day of the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Asian-African Conference, Indonesian President Joko Widodo opened a summit in Jakarta, in which heads of states and governments participated.
The heads of states and governments who took part in the event included Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hasanal Bolkiah, President of the Peoples Republic of China Xi Jinping, King of Swaziland Mswati III, Prime Minister of Palestine Rami Al Hamdallah, President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe, King of Jordan Abdullah II, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, and Prime Minister of Thailand General Prayut Chan O.
