"I urge all sides to maintain world peace, and warring parties to cease fire," Jokowi said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for world peace after officially closing the Asian-African Summit 2015, which was held as part of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (AAC).
"I urge all sides to maintain world peace, and warring parties to cease fire," the president said at the Jakarta Convention Center on Thursday evening.
He stated that his call for peace would complement the agreements that were formulated during the 60th anniversary celebrations of the AAC, which began here on Sunday, April 19.
Jokowi pointed out that calls for unity and peace had also been made by Muslim countries that are members of the Islamic Conference Organization.
On the occasion, several issues were also agreed upon, such as the settlement of problems faced by Muslims in Palestine, terrorism, and internal and external conflicts prevailing in countries and regions, among others.
The meeting also produced an agreement to set up a task force to build frameworks on communication and to settle problems.
He further noted that Muslim countries also hoped that Indonesia would play a role in overcoming problems in the Muslim world.
The 60th AAC was organized in Jakarta from April 19 to 23, with the last event scheduled to be held in Bandung on April 24.
On April 21 and 22, an Asian-African Business Summit was held.
Moreover, the Asian-African Summit 2015 produced three important documents---the Bandung Message 2015, the Declaration on the Reinforcement of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership, and the Declaration on Palestinian Independence.
The meeting also agreed to declare April 24 as the Asian-African Day, Bandung as the capital city of Asia-African solidarity, and the establishment of the Asian-African Center in Indonesia.(*)
