"Last year harvest totaled 60 tons per hectare on the average and this year, the production target is set at 72 million tons and it has to be higher again next year," President Director of the state owned agriculture, pharmaceutical, distribution and trading company Didik Prasetyo said on Saturday.
Didik said he is optimistic the target could be reached with the availability of high yield seed variety.
Earlier, synergy between state companies PT Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia (RNI) and PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) succeeded in producing high yield seed variety for sugarcane farmers in Cirebon, West Java.
"The synergy was made to help 278 farmers organized by RNIs sugar factory PT PG Rajawali II, to prepare sugarcane for milling in 2015-2016," Didik said.
Apart from providing working capital RNI also provide in-house training for 110 farmers , he said.
RNI also conducts integrated research on sugarcane cultivation which is expected to help farmer increase their productivity.
Meanwhile I Made Surata, the general director of Aneka Tambang, a state-owned mining company, assistance in working capital totaling Rp24.6 billion had been set aside.
"The working capital would be disbursed by phases to produce good quality seeds," I Made Surata said.
