We will fully support them in their law enforcement efforts for the nation, without any doubt."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The general chairman of the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), Surya Paloh, said here on Wednesday that they will not issue a sanction to O. C. Kaligis, the chairman of a party tribunal, because he has resigned.
"He (Kaligis) resigned as the chairman of a party tribunal and a party official," he stated at the Nasdem headquarters.
According to Paloh, Kaligis resigned last night, and as the general chairman of Nasdem, he accepted his resignation with a heavy heart and respected it.
Earlier, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) had named Kaligis as a suspect and detained him in connection with his alleged involvement in a bribery case.
Due to Kaligis resignation, Nasdem did not give him a sanction. "We did not give a sanction in this case," the Nasdem chairman noted.
Paloh, who claims to have known Kaligis for 40 years, also pointed out that the party will not provide him with legal assistance because he was a superior in the field.
Nasdem will support the anti-graft body, he affirmed, adding that it has urged the KPK to deal with the case transparently.
"We will fully support them in their law enforcement efforts for the nation, without any doubt. Law enforcement is global and applies to Kaligis, as well. However, transparency must be ensured and the principle of presumption of innocence must be respected," he remarked.
The KPK officially named Kaligis, one of the countrys top lawyers, as a suspect for allegedly having bribed judges of the administrative court in Medan, North Sumatra.
He was named as a suspect after the anti-corruption agency questioned a number of other suspects and witnesses in connection with the case earlier.
