Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Former vice president of Indonesia Boediono has urged all parties to strengthen the foundation of Indonesias long-term development goals, instead of struggling with issues impeding the short-term ones.

"If we are always busy addressing short-term problems, we will not achieve our long-term goals," he told Antara during an exclusive interview here on Thursday, on the 70th anniversary of Indonesias independence.

According to Boediono, long-term targets are important because they can maintain the countrys resilience to be strong and modern and enable it to compete with other nations at the global level.

If parties neglect to prepare a strong long-term foundation, the Republic of Indonesia may lag behind other countries, he cautioned.

Moreover, Boediono pointed out that to strengthen the foundation of Indonesias long-term goals, one aspect that needs to be considered is the quality of human resources.

The former vice president emphasized that the quality of human resources must be made better by striving to improve childrens skills to the highest standards. This can help them reach their maximum potential during the course of their lives.

If all children are assured that they will achieve their long-term goals, Boediono remarked, the new generation of Indonesia will be much better prepared to maximize their potential, as compared to previous generations.(*)
