About 100 institutions will be evaluated one by one."Pontianak (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has stated that several institutions will be merged for the purpose of making them more efficient.
The government is evaluating hundreds of institutions by considering their benefits to the public, he said after inspecting the Pontianak port in West Kalimantan on Saturday.
"About 100 institutions will be evaluated one by one," he said.
Based on the results of the evaluation, if the institutions are seen as useful for the state and the people, they will be maintained, he said.
But if the main tasks and functions of two institutions overlap, they might be merged together into one institution, he said.
"If they are useful for the state and the people, they will be maintained. But if they are not, they must be merged into other institutions because they do consume the state budget. We want everything to be efficient," the President said.
Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, had said the planned mergers would particularly affect institutions that had been performing poorly.
"The number of such institutions is large. It is about a 100. Some of them may be merged because their roles are unclear. So far, 10 institutions have been dissolved," he pointed out.
The functions of the institutions would remain unchanged even if they are merged with other institutions, Pandjaitan explained.
"Their functions have not been dissolved. Dont misconstrue this. Instead of operating alone and incurring high costs of operation, such institutions will be merely embedded with other institutions or ministries," he said.
