"We still need IPDN for the education of our bureaucracy and civil servants. Especially for the civil services, district heads and village heads, who must acquire an education from the IPDN," the Vice President said at his office.
Commenting on the frequent violence in the educational process of learners, the Vice President said it was not reason enough to dissolve the IPDN.
"If that is the case, it is not the IPDN, but the elements of violence that have to be eliminated," the Vice President said in response to Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnamas statement that IPDN was not significant.
The Jakarta Governor, better known as Ahok, acknowledged that he had proposed to President Joko Widodo that IPDN be dissolved because according to him, there was no clear mechanism apparent in the process of recruiting candidates for the civil services.
In the meantime, Home Affairs Minister, Tjahjo Kumolo, explained that the establishment of IPDN was intended to improve the quality of civilian apparatus in the country in terms of human resources.
Kumolo said the Home Affairs Ministry still needed IPDN to educate the civil servants of the county so that they understood matters related to governing bureaucracy.
By proposing to dissolve the IPDN, the minister said, the Jakarta Governor had violated a law on regional government.(*)
