Indonesia can have role as a mediator between the two factions ..."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - International law expert of Indonesia University Prof Hikmahanto Juwana said Indonesia should mediate internal conflicts between Palestinian factions Fatah and Hammas, following the Palestine flag hoisting ceremony at the United Nations Headquarter.
"Indonesia can have role as a mediator between the two factions that have different views on the independence of Palestine. Indonesia can establish a conference for the two factions and the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," Hikmahanto said here on Friday.
He also said Palestine should conduct internal reorganization efforts to accommodate the differences of the factions.
Hikmahanto said the raising of the Palestine flag at the UN Headquarter in New York was a great moment in the history of the country. However, the Palestinian efforts to gain independence are not over.
"Their struggle is not over due to several countries, including the United States and its allies, who have yet to recognize their independence," he added.
The UN has accommodated the demands of the international community by recognizing Palestine as a country. Currently, approximately 3 million Palestinians are living in North Africa, Europe, Canada, and Australia.
The Palestinian flag was hoisted at the UN headquarters on a flagpole located in the rose garden on Wednesday, September 30.
Palestine became an observer country at the UN in 2012.
