"In principle, the approval would be easily available," Teten Masduki said.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Chief of the presidential staff Teten Masduki said President Joko Widodo would not make it difficult for the law enforcing agencies to secure approval to investigate legislators.
"In principle, the approval would be easily available," Teten Masduki said here on Tuesday.
He said the president had no reason to make it difficult for the law enforcing agencies to carry out their duty.
He said based on the decision of the Constitutional Court approval from the president is required to investigate members of the parliament.
"I think everybody including the president has to obey the law. Therefore, there is no political consideration in such cases," he added.
In its decision last month, the Constitutional Court said investigations of members of the Parliament, the Peoples Consultative Assembly and the Regional Representative Council requires presidential approval.
The decision has created controversy with some observers saying president approval is tantamount to intervention in legal case.
Commenting on the forming of a special committee probing alleged corruption in state owned port operator Pelindo II by the Parliament, Teten said, the Parliament has the authority to do it.
"However, as it is already in the hand of the police why we cant just wait and rely on police to carry out their duty," he said.
The legislators could watch to make sure the process of law is properly conducted, he said.(*)
