Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indian Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari will pay an official visit to Indonesia on November 1-4 on the invitation of Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

Ansari will be accompanied by his wife, State Minister for Water Resources Sanwar Lat Jat, four parliament members, several senior officials, a business delegation, and media persons, Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh stated here on Wednesday.

"We will make preparations for a high-ranking official visit led by the Indian vice president as we are aware that Indonesia is a democratic and diverse country similar to India," he affirmed.

Singh noted that Vice President Ansaris visit holds significance as it will reaffirm and strengthen political, economic, and cultural relations between the two countries.

"Proudly, I can say that the relations between India and Indonesia are unrivaled as the two countries have ties based on history, civilization, and true friendship. We must continue to strengthen and modernize it," he emphasized.

While in Jakarta, Vice President Ansari will also meet President Joko Widodo, Vice President Kalla, Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi, and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is also chief of the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which is also President Widodos party.

He is also scheduled to meet Chairman of the Peoples Consultative Assembly (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan and Chairman of the Regional Representatives Council Irman Gusman.

Vice President Ansari will also give a general lecture on November 2 in Jakarta and at the Udayana University in Bali on November 4.

On November 3, he is scheduled to officially launch an Indonesia-India Business Forum.

The Indonesian and Indian governments will also sign a memorandum of understanding to establish cooperation in the fields of new and renewable energy and cultural exchange.

The two countries will also exchange notes of acceptance and implement reciprocal agreements of extradition and legal aid.

Since the election of new governments in India and Indonesia in 2014, there have been high-ranking engagements between officials of the two countries.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Widodo in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, in November 2014 on the sidelines of the 25th ASEAN Summit.(*)
