Although their intensity is declining people are still traumatized and have decided to stay outdoors."Kupang (ANTARA News) - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) station in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, recorded two after-tremors in the Alor district Saturday.
"Today, two after-tremors were recorded following the first major earthquake on Wednesday (Nov 4) that damaged a number of structures," head of data and information of BMKGs Climatology Station Class IA in Kupang, Sumawan, told ANTARA News.
The first tremor, measuring 4.1 on the Richter Scale, occurred at around 3.33 am local time, with its epicenter 97 kilometer southeast of Alor, at a depth of 10 kilometer.
The second tremor was at around 9.52 am measuring 3.4, with its epicenter 32 kilometers northeast of Alor, also at a depth of around 10 kilometers from the sea level.
The station had kept monitoring intensively the development of the earthquake in Alor for possible after-tremors, Sumawan said.
East Alor residents in Maritaing area were still remaining outside their homes as there were repeated after-tremors, Alor district head Amon Djobo said.
"Although their intensity is declining people are still traumatized and have decided to stay outdoors," he said.
They had chosen to shift to higher ground for fear of a possible tsunami, as they were still traumatized by a similar tragedy in 1991 when a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the region killing 28 people, he said.
No one was killed in this earthquake, but some houses and public facilities had been damaged.
