Tembagapura (ANTARA News) - President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia Maroef Sjamsoeddin said he is ready to testify at the Parliament Honorary Council Tribunal to give details of his recent meetings and talks with House Speaker Setya Novanto and businessman Riza Chalid.

"For the people and the nation I would be ready to give all facts as clear as I could. My integrity and loyalty to the nation would never be tarnished," Maroef told journalists in Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua, on Wednesday.

The retired three star air force general said the present era is marked with openness. nothing could be hide especially for a bigger national interest, he added.

"We fully support the initiative of President Joko Widodo about the need for mental revolution, that we could think something useful for the nation," Maroef said.

He refused to unveiled the substance of his talks in a number of meetings here with Novanto and Riza Chalid, saying, "I would not talk about the substance as it is already in the area to be discussed by MKD."

Part of the transcript of the talks have been handed over earlier by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said to MKD.

The transcript said Novanto asked for a share in PT Freeport Indonesia in exchange of support for the U.S. mining company in seeking renewal of its contract.

Novanto , according to the transctipt , used the name of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla to convince Freeport.

Freeport Indonesia, which has large copper and gold mines in Papua is seeking to renew its contract of works which would expired in 2021.

Supporters of Novanto especially MKD members from his Golkar party and Gerindra had sought to cancel its previous decision apparently to slow the work of MKD.

Failure to reach an agreement, MKD called for voting that resulted in the majority of the members in favor of going ahead with the following agenda.

MKD, therefore, has set schedule to summon Sudirman on Wednesday to be followed with Maroef Sjamsoeddin and Riza Chalid for questioning on Thursday.

Meanwhile chairman of the Peoples Congress (MPR) Zulkifli Hasan said Novanto could use the MKD to clear his name.

"Novanto has denied the accusation that he had misused the names of President Joko Widodo and Vice President. Then MKD could be a forum for him to make clarification," Zulkifli said.

He said he hopes Novanto could take the opportunity through MKD to defend his reputation.

The general chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said he is confident MKD could work independently in processing alleged misuse of the names of the president and vice president by Novanto for personal interest as reported by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said.

MKD has not set date to summon Novanto for questioning.(*)
