Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman claimed to have reported the proceedings of the Freeport case in the Parliaments Ethics Tribunal (MKD) to President Joko Widodo.

"Of course, I have reported the process that I have gone through, and he said that it was a good process to keep all the citizens informed. The ethics must be enforced, and he lauded the open process carried out by the MKD," Said stated at the presidential palace complex, here, Monday.

"He did not give any specific directives but remarked that the efforts to educate the public must continue, and ethical matters are important for the public. This should be demonstrated by the top leaders in this country," he emphasized.

The minister voiced his readiness to comply if the National Police or the Corruption Eradication Commission demanded an explanation.

The president is following the issue both through the media and his staff, according to the minister.

The ongoing case concerning the audio recording of House Speaker Setya Novanto allegedly demanding shares in PT Freeport Indonesia has shaken Indonesian politics.

In the recording, secretly taped by President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia Maroef Sjamsoeddin when he met Novanto and oil businessman M. Riza Chalid in July 2015, the House speaker allegedly sought some 20 percent shares of PT Freeport Indonesia in exchange for support to help the company renew its contract early.

The tribunal respectively called Minister Said on December 2 and Sjamsoeddin on December 3 to testify in hearings broadcast live by some national television stations.

The MKD questioned Novanto on Monday, December 7, according to MKD Deputy Chairman Junimart Girsang.

Sjamsoeddin was questioned by an investigator from the Attorney Generals Office after testifying before the MKD.
