Chief judge Haran Tarigan, who read out the verdict, also fined the defendant Rp1 billion. In case of non-payment of fine, he would have to stay in prison for five months more.
Anthony was convicted of having acted as a middleman in a narcotic drug deal and for having kept and trafficked 1.85 kilograms of methamphetamine. He violated Article 114 Paragraph 2, in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 35 of 2009, on narcotics.
The sentence was for a duration two years less than the prosecutors demand of 17 years in jail.
Anthony did not appeal the verdict. "I accept," he said after hearing the verdict.
Anthony was arrested by the Jakarta Metropolitan police on April 20, following the arrest of Ade Irman Handayani, his girlfriend, who he had asked to return 266.78 grams of methamphetamine to his rented house in Srengseng, Kembangan, West Jakarta.
Ade was arrested while she was on her way to Anthonys house. The police then asked her to lead them to Anthonys house from where they recovered 1.85 kilograms of meth.
Anthony confessed to have obtained the contraband from a friend of his, named Frank, who continues to be at large since April 19. He later entrusted Ade Irma Handayani with the contraband.(*)
