The fact that the inflation was at a five-year low level indicated improvement in the goods and service price stability amid an ongoing economic slow-down.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has announced that the year-on-year inflation for 2015 was recorded at 3.35 percent, the lowest since 2010.

The fact that the inflation was at a five-year low level indicated improvement in the goods and service price stability amid an ongoing economic slow-down.

"At home, we could see the measures taken by the government, such as improving the system and controlling prices," BPS Head Suryamin said here on Monday.

Suryamin revealed that the annual inflation rates from 2010 to 2014 were, respectively, 6.96 percent, 3.69 percent, 4.3 percent, 8.38 percent and 8.36 percent.

Based on the BPS calculation, the 2010 period is taken as a base for comparison because the impact of global economic crisis began to decrease from that time. When compared with the inflation rate in 2009, the consumer price index was lower at 2.78 percent.

Suryamin said the improvement in the consumer price index this year was reflected in the core inflation rate, which was also affected by external factors, at 3.95 percent.

Overall, the annual 3.35 inflation rate was due to the combination of the core inflation, the inflation in the government administered prices at 0.93 percent, volatile goods at 4.84 percent and the deflation of the energy component at 4.02 percent.

Even though there was improvement in the year-to-year and year-to-date inflation, the December 2015 inflation at 0.96 percent was the highest month-to-month inflation in 2015.

The December 2015 inflation was even higher than the inflation rate during the Eid al-Fitr period in July 2015 which was 0.93 percent.

"This high inflation rate was also because of the contribution of food and air transportation inflation in the run-up to Christmas and New Year 2016 celebrations," he said.(*)
