Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has called upon Iran to exercise restraint in order to maintain stability and peace in the Middle Eastern region.
The Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, stated this while receiving a courtesy call from the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in Jakarta on Monday.
"We conveyed to the Iranian Foreign Minister to convey to President Rouhani the importance of exercising restraint to maintain stability and peace in the Middle East," the president said.
According to the president, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed and said he will convey the message to the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.
President Joko Widodo added that both Indonesia and Iran expressed the same commitment to fully support the independence of Palestine.
In addition to show the same commitment, the two countries agreed to strengthen investment cooperation.
"We want to strengthen Indonesian investments in Iran, and Iran will also invest in Indonesia," the president said.
Earlier, the Iranian government appreciated the step taken by the Indonesian government in mediating the conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Indonesia undertakes active diplomacy in maintaining the stability and security of the world.
Indonesia considers that the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Iran would have an effect on Indonesia.(*)
