Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited Abdi Waluyo Hospital in Central Jakarta to pay tribute to Riau Islands Governor H Muhammad Sani who passed away at the hospital Friday evening.

The President arrived at the hospital at 5:20 p.m. in the company of Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. He was greeted by the hospital management and was led to the room where the body of the late Muhammad Sani lay in state.

In the room, the President was welcomed by the wife and children of the late Sani. The Head of State expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members. Jokowi asked for the bereaved family to remain steadfast and prayed for them to be given strength.

Riau Islands Governor Muhammad Sani died at Abdi Waluyo Hospital in Menteng, Central Jakarta Friday afternoon.

Sani was in Jakarta to attend a meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and other regional heads at the State Palace Friday morning, but he later complained of pain and was rushed to the Abdi Waluyo Hospital.

Sani was born in Parit Mangkil, Sungai Ungar, Kundur, Karimun, Riau Islands, on May 11, 1942. He is listed as the Governor of Riau Islands from 2010 to 2015 and from 2016 to 2021. Sani replaced Governor Ismeth Abdullah in 2010.

Sani is survived by his wife Aisyah and three children, Herry Andrianto, Henny Andriani and Riny Fitriani.(*)
