Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and several leaders of the House of Representatives (DPR) held a meeting at the Merdeka Palace, here, Friday, to evaluate the progress achieved in the deliberation of the tax amnesty bill.

Jokowi hoped that the deliberation would be completed at the earliest, and the tax amnesty bill would not be misused for vested interests, Pramono Anung, the cabinet secretary, stated.

The government and DPR are optimistic that the tax amnesty bill would provide additional capital to boost Indonesias economic conditions amid the sluggish global economy.

The government expects an inflow of capital with the implementation of the tax amnesty bill, which can be used for developing infrastructure and enhancing the countrys economic competitiveness.

Jokowi is optimistic that if the tax amnesty bill is implemented smoothly, the government would receive additional funds and help to boost foreign exchange reserves, according to Pramono.

The government will conduct tax reconciliation and simultaneously utilize the funds for domestic investment, he added.

The meeting began at 9:30 a.m. local time and ended at 11:30 a.m. local time.

Among the members of the Parliament were House Speaker Ade Komarudin, Deputy House Speaker Fadli Zon, Deputy House Speaker in charge of economic and finance affairs Taufik Kurniawan, DPR Secretary General Winantuningtyastiti, and Golkar Faction Chairman Setya Novanto.

In the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Justice and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, Deputy Finance Minister Mardiasmo, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.(*)
