Alinda M. Zain, the education attache at the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, noted in a press statement here on Thursday that the students were evacuated on Tuesday as after the earthquake, the situation in Kumamoto was not conducive.
"Some of Indonesian nationals were also evacuated to Hirosima and Tokyo," Alinda revealed.
She added that the disaster management system in Japan was efficient, and all citizens, both Japanese and foreign nationals, were offered assistance, without any discrimination, and it was unlikely that any of the disaster victims were neglected.
It was reported earlier that there were 320 Indonesian students in Kumamoto, but Alinda confirmed that there were only 60.
"The earlier report that there were 320 Indonesian students in Kumamoto was inaccurate and unreliable," she clarified.
A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck southern Japan early on Saturday, killing at least 20 people, injuring more than a thousand and trapping people in collapsed buildings, barely a day after Thursdays quake killed nine people in the same region.(*)
