"The foreign nationals were only holding visas on arrival that are merely intended for tourism purposes," head of the Kelas I A Pontianak immigration office, Matt Salim, said here on Thursday.
One of the eight Chinese nationals who worked at the sawmill was a woman, Salim said, noting that the workers only held passports.
"Actually, it is a must for the company to have a permit issued by the Manpower Affairs Ministry or the local office of the manpower office," Salim explained.
The eight foreign citizens have violated Article 122 of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, he pointed out.
All eight Chinese citizens arrived in West Kalimantan on March 7, 2016.
"With regard to the company, we will question its leadership in the near future," Salim noted, adding that the eight Chinese citizens are being detained at the Pontianak Immigration Office.
Meanwhile, chief of Pontianak District Military Command Col. Jacky Ariestanto said that CV Sari Pasifik, which engaged in the timber processing, has been conducting its activities illegally by employing foreigners without permission.(*)
