During the talks, Indonesia and China agreed to respect each other's territorial sovereignty and committed themselves to forge bilateral ties.Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan met with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Beijing on Tuesday to discuss security and the latest situation in the South China Sea.
Concerns about the South China Sea was the topic of the talks, the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs said in a press statement released on Tuesday.
During the talks, Indonesia and China agreed to respect each others territorial sovereignty and committed themselves to forge bilateral ties.
At the meeting, the two nations also agreed to enhance cooperation in various fields, including agriculture, maritime, land, and defense industries.
Further, both Luhut and Yang agreed to immediately implement those bilateral agreements the two countries either have signed or soon will complete.
While in Beijing, Luhut also met with CEOs of 11 large-scale infrastructure companies in China. Most of the companies, including Powerchina International Group Limited, have invested in Indonesia.
Also at the meeting, Luhut briefed the CEOs on security conditions, development programs, and investment opportunities in Indonesia.
Papua Governor Lukas Enembe, who was also present at the meeting, spoke of new investment opportunities, particularly in infrastructure development, to be found in the eastern-most Indonesian province.
Further, Luhut and Lukas invited Chinese companies to invest in Indonesia. They also pledged to create a positive investment climate for Chinese companies.
The meeting was also attended by Indonesian Ambassador to China Soegoeng Rahardjo.(*)
