"The disaster was caused by incessant rains since 4:30 a.m. local time at the hill around a power plant in South Lebong Sub-district, Lebong District of Bengkulu Province," Head of the Data and Information Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency noted in a press statement here on Thursday.
The landslide hit the employee camp site of PT PGE, which operates a geothermal power plant in the area.
A subcontractor of PT PGE identified as John was killed, while four others --- Roni Doris, Doris wife, Slamet Amano, and Toni --- were injured due to the landslide.
Meanwhile, it is believed that at least four people are still buried in the rubble.
The Fast Response Unit of the Lebong and Bengkulu Regional Disaster Mitigation Agencies, assisted by the Military, Police, and some volunteers, are still searching for the missing victims.
The authority stated that the landslide was not triggered by the operations of the geothermal power plant.
"The landslide was due to natural causes. Rocks slid down the hill and hit the employee camp," Nugroho added.(*)
