He landed at around 15.00pm local time after a 10-hour flight from Seoul, South Korea, where he had gone for a two-day state visit.
He was welcomed on arrival by Indonesian ambassador to Russia, Wahid Supriyadi and his wife as well as a number of other officials including defense attache Col. Untung Suropati, director of the department of state protocol, Yuri Filatov, deputy protocol director of the Russian foreign ministry, Igor Bogdaseve, Sochi mayor Pakhomov Anatoly and deputy governor Krasnodarskiy Krai Galas.
When he stepped down from the aircraft, President Joko Widodo was welcomed with a bread and salt ceremony. He took a slice of Karaway bread and put it on the edge of the plate as a symbol of respect to Russian earth.
Following the welcome ceremony, President Joko Widodo and his entourage immediately left for Hotel Radisson Blue for a bilateral meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
At the meeting, the two leaders would discuss cooperation in a number of areas such as economy, politics, security and technology.
On Thursday morning, President Joko Widodo is scheduled to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit to discuss economic and political relations as also the regional security architecture.(*)
