"I am pleased with this event. I hope this fish eating campaign drive will be held here frequently," resident Rudi exclaimed.
Another resident, Sri Astutik, was excited about the fish eating campaign, held for the first time ever in Kenjeran.
"I was informed by my neighbor of this event, and came here along with my children," she gushed.
East Java Vice Governor Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul), who also attended the festival, hailed the event and lent his support to the campaign held by the Rek Ayo Rek (RAR) Community which comprised politicians, government officials, legislators, academics, traders, journalists and local residents.
"This Kenjeran Festival is good. What is more, it features an event where everyone eats fish together. We hope this will become an annual drive and if necessary, even be held quarterly," he observed.
Chairman of the Surabaya Chapter of the Indonesian Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Jamhadi said several foreign dignitaries such as consuls general from Japan, Taiwan, German, Britain, Nepal, Uganda, the Netherlands, and Pakistan attended this festival.
"I invited them to come here. We support this event," he reiterated.
Chairman of the events organizing committee Riswanto informed that some 5,000 residents joined the event. "Hopefully, this activity will be able to make Surabaya residents eager to eat fish," he stated. (*)
