"The perspective on human rights is not always similar. The person who rapes anyone, particularly a child, is violating the human rights of that child," Kalla said.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said introducing provision for chemical castration as an additional sentence for those committing sexual violence against children was a way to support the human rights of the victim.

"The perspective on human rights is not always similar. The person who rapes anyone, particularly a child, is violating the human rights of that child," Kalla said here on Friday.

He added that the perspective which views castration as violation of the human rights of the culprit should be judged from the viewpoint of the victim of sexual assault.

Kalla also stated his opinion during his meeting with the President of the Netherlands Supreme Court, Marteen Feteris.

Feteris said the law enforcement shouldnt violate human rights.

However, Kalla said the castration sentence against rapists will be implemented in the same fashion as the death sentence in case of those abusing drugs.

"The European perspective on death sentence is that it violates human rights. However, we see it from the view point of victims of drugs distribution," Kalla said.

The Vice President said the Indonesian government will be consistent in the enforcement of law.

"Legal perspectives of countries can be different. It doesnt mean that we should be following someone else. Instead, we should adapt to the current condition," Kalla said.

The Indonesian government has introduced castration as an additional punishment for those found guilty of committing sexual violence against children.(*)
