Thus, the contracts of our migrant workers have been extended for an indefinite duration."Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Some 33 Indonesian migrant workers in Syria have returned to Indonesia through the Rafic Hariri International Airport in the capital city of Lebanon, Beirut, according to the Indonesian Embassy in Damascus.
Most of the migrant workers repatriated by the embassys officials on June 9 are from West Java, while the others hail from Central Java, East Java, and West Nusa Tenggara, the embassys statement made available to Antara here on Monday revealed.
The repatriation was conducted after all requirements concerning the rights of the workers had been met by their employers. It was the 275th batch of Indonesian migrant workers that had been repatriated from the war-torn country.
Following the latest repatriation, it is believed that 21 Indonesians, suspected of being victims of a human trafficking syndicate, are still housed at the embassys temporary shelter.
According to Indonesian Ambassador to Syria Djoko Harjanto, the repatriation of Indonesian migrant workers from Syria has been conducted since 2011 owing to security reasons.
"Thus, the contracts of our migrant workers have been extended for an indefinite duration," he pointed out.
The 33 migrant workers, who had been repatriated on June 9, might have also been the victims of a human trafficking syndicate as they had no working agreements or contracts citing the destination country, amount of salary, and expiry of the employment contract, he added.
