Japan and the United States use dried tuna to flavor food ..."Manado (ANTARA News) - Japan and the United States (US) have been importing increased quantities of dried tuna from North Sulawesi Province every month, thanks to the increasing demand for the commodity.
"In early June 2016, North Sulawesi exported 12.44 tons of dried tuna to Japan and the United States," the head of North Sulawesi Provinces Industry and Trade Office, Jenny Karouw, said here on Monday.
Karouw disclosed that North Sulawesi Province had exported 11.2 tons of dried tuna product to Japan, earning 7.98 million yen in foreign exchange.
The province had exported 1.24 tons of dried tuna to the United States, worth 1.53 million yen in foreign exchange.
She explained that Japan and the United States used the derivative products of tuna as raw materials as well as for food flavoring.
"Japan and the United States use dried tuna to flavor food, preferring it over artificial flavoring materials," she noted.
She advised that the North Sulawesi Provinces exporters should utilize this business opportunity and continue to maintain and improve the quality and quantity of dried tuna products so that this trade benefits both sides.
