President Jojo Widodo (Jokowi) has picked Tito over eight other more senior three star generals to replace outgoing police chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti, who will enter his retirement age next month.
The National Police Commission (Kompolnas), the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Financial Transaction Analysis and Recording Center (PPATK) and the National police held a hearing on Tuesday with the Commission III of the House of Representatives on the track record of Tito .
In line with the procedure, Tito has to go through fit and proper test by the House of Representative on Thursday, before the House decided whether to approve or reject the three start general.
In the hearing Kompolnas Chairman Coordinating Minister for Law, Security and Political Affairs Luhut Panjaitan said Tito is a professional officer, and is able to work with anyone.
"I have known him for long and worked closely with him in carrying out professional duties," Luhut said.
Kompolnas has evaluated the performance and track records of nine candidates of three star police generals and President Jokowi picked Tito as the sole candidate to be proposed to the House of Representative, he said.
KPK Chairman Agus Rahardjo said KPK has received no complaint and suspicious report from the public about Titos assets as a state official.
"The people have no report against Tito . The LHKPN (Report of Assets of Civil Servants) in November 2014 and March 2016 declared Tito clean," Agus said.
PPATK chairman Muhamad Yusuf said the agency had found no suspicious transaction involving Tito.
"Comr.Gen. Tito had 14 accounts in private banks in 2004 , all closed by 2014 , and three in state banks and two of the have been closed, leaving only one," Yusuf said.
He said Titos wife has four accounts and insurance police and three son each having an account with no suspicious transaction.
Meanwhile Law and Human Right Minister Yasona Laoly also spoke favorably of Tito Karnavian describing the general as a professional officer and having performed well.
At the meeting chaired by Commission III chairman Bambang Soesatyo, a number of the Commission members expressed support for and appreciation about Titos track record n and performance.
The Commission III plans to hold the fit and proper test on Thursday.
Many haven been surprised when President Jokowi announced that he had picked Tito , the youngest of nine senior police generals to be the countrys new police chief.
Tito is expected to speed up the process of reform within the police department which has been rated as one of the countrys most corrupt institutions.(*)
