"We have arrested a pharmacy owner, MF, and two couriers whose initials are TH and ER," Director of Special Economic Crime Directorate of the National Police, Brigadier General Agung Setya, said here on Wednesday.
The suspects were arrested during a raid on a pharmacy located in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta on Tuesday.
Police found some leads which led them to a house used to make spurious vaccines in Puri Bintaro Hijau complex, Pondok Aren, Tangerang.
From that house, officers arrested one AP, who was suspected to be the vaccine manufacturer, and his wife, L, as well as a courier named S.
AP revealed to the police as part of counterfeiting the vaccine, he filled used bottles of vaccine with a certain solution and then put a label on them.
Officials confiscated hundreds of vials of vaccines, ranging from measles, BCG, pentabio, hepatitis B, polio and tetanus, as well as other chemical substances and medical instruments.
"All of these vaccines were for babies," Setya pointed out, adding that the police is investigating the case.(*)
